Walking the streets of Casablanca - The city seems full of contradictions.  They are building luxury residences on the waterfront.  Less than 50 feet away are the battered stucco residences which must have been here for hundreds of years.  We took this picture just a few steps away from the new Marina development.

Grand Mosque Hassan II - In the afternoon, we walked from the hotel to what some call the second largest mosque in the world (others say the fifth largest, but we're not going to quibble.

Just outside the mosque was a line of young boys (no girls) jumping from the sea wall into the Atlantic.

Day 1 - Casablanca

The first official day of the tour didn't begin until dinner.  This morning, we found Casablanca's Central Market.  They sell spices by the barrel,  fresh fruit and fresh fish.

Day 0 - Casablanca - continued

We managed to find our way to the hotel.  After breakfast and a few hours rest, we set out on foot to explore the city.  Here's Karen sampling Moroccan tea.  It's hot, minty and very sweet.

Nearing the coast of Africa

Happily, our flight was uneventful, which is how flights should be.  When we woke up, the sun was just rising over the eastern coast of Africa.

JFK Airport

We arrived at the airport a mere five hours before our flight was scheduled to take-off.  That left Karen plenty of time to get caught up on her needlepoint!
